Rot-Weiss Essen secures 2-1 victory in friendly against VVV-Venlo

Rot-Weiss Essen concluded its training week with a 2-1 win against the Dutch second-division club VVV-Venlo. Coach Christian Kinat used the match to assess the team’s tactical application following an intensive week of training, noting that the high pace provided a competitive simulation.

During the match, the coaching staff implemented several tactical experiments, including pushing full-backs into higher offensive roles to enhance flank play. Kinat highlighted that the winning goal was a direct outcome of a specific training drill focused on winning second balls and quickly transitioning into the opponent's defensive third, an element the team intends to utilize more frequently in upcoming competitive fixtures.

While the result was positive, Kinat noted areas for improvement, particularly regarding defensive organization during the 60-minute mark when the opponent exerted significant pressure. The team will look to apply these findings as they prepare for the remainder of the season, focusing on maintaining structural stability even when the opponent utilizes high-pressing tactics.
