Rot-Weiss Essen stadium expansion approved, new lease signed
Rot-Weiss Essen's home stadium, Stadion an der Hafenstraße, is set for expansion following the city of Essen's approval of cost adjustments. A new long-term lease agreement between GVE and the club has also been finalized.

The city of Essen has approved cost adjustments for the expansion of Stadion an der Hafenstraße, the home ground of football club Rot-Weiss Essen. The decision was made by the Essen City Council on July 8.
This expansion is intended to modernize the sports infrastructure and create the conditions for the club's continued sporting and economic development. As part of the project, GVE Grundstücksverwaltung Stadt Essen GmbH, which manages the city's properties, and Rot-Weiss Essen have signed a new long-term lease agreement for the stadium. This agreement provides long-term planning security for both parties.
The expansion and the new agreement are seen as crucial for the club's sustainable growth and for meeting increased capacity demands. The stadium has reached its capacity limits in recent years, and the expansion is considered a necessary step to achieve the club's ambitions. The development is also expected to benefit women's football and other events in Essen.
The project will be carried out in close cooperation between GVE and Rot-Weiss Essen, aiming to minimize disruptions during matches and ensure the continuity of match operations. The expansion also strengthens Essen's standing as a venue for sports and events.
