Royal Caribbean to Expand Mahahual Community Center

Royal Caribbean confirmed on July 22, 2026, plans to advance the development of the Mahahual K'iin Community Center in Mahahual, Mexico. The project aims to create a larger and more accessible space for community programs and activities.

The new center builds upon a community space established in 2014, aiming to provide expanded opportunities for education, recreation, cultural programming, and local gatherings. The center's name, Mahahual K'iin, translates to "the sun of Mahahual" and was selected through a community vote.

"Mahahual is an important community for Royal Caribbean, and the Mahahual K'iin Community Center reflects the long-term partnership we want to continue building here," said Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. "This next phase is about turning commitment into action by creating a welcoming place where children can learn, families can gather and neighbors can connect."

Centrally located, the facility is envisioned with modern, flexible spaces for workshops, education, and community-led events, along with outdoor recreation areas, including a new soccer pitch for youth programs, and basketball and volleyball courts. Construction is slated to begin once necessary permits and approvals are obtained.

Royal Caribbean will continue to collaborate with residents, community leaders, and local authorities to support initiatives that strengthen community well-being, environmental stewardship, and local opportunities.
