Ørsted brings energy storage system online in Texas

Ørsted has announced the commercial operation of its Old 300 Storage battery energy system in Fort Bend County, Texas. The 250 MW/500 MWh facility marks the company's twelfth project in the state.

The storage system is designed to enhance grid stability and reliability by providing rapidly dispatchable capacity. It can deliver energy for up to four hours and is intended to support grid operator ERCOT's needs for balancing supply and demand.

This development is significant as Texas continues to integrate large amounts of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, which require grid support to manage intermittency. The Old 300 Storage system will help to ensure a more consistent power supply.
