The crash comes amid ongoing Russian military operations in Ukraine, with reports of Russia increasing its drone and missile attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will soon receive new interceptor missiles capable of engaging Russian jet-powered drones, though he noted that the current interception rate remains insufficient. He assured that the accuracy will improve.
According to Ukraine, Russia attacked the city of Sumy with four glide bombs that hit the city center, damaging a school among other structures. At least two people were killed and six injured in the attack. Belgium has pledged to deliver three F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of the year.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that Russia is not interested in serious peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
