R+V to Digitize Residential Building Claims Processing

R+V Versicherung is streamlining the claims process for damage to residential buildings, following incidents like burst pipes or fires. The company's subsidiary, StartRaiff, has collaborated with the Fraunhofer Institute to develop a digital solution named AssureXR, which employs virtual reality and 3D scanning for precise damage assessment.

The AssureXR system works by having technicians conduct 3D scans, capture 360-degree panoramic images, and take close-up photos of affected areas using smartphones. This visual data is supplemented with measurement data and floor plans. R+V then generates a digital twin of the premises, a detailed virtual model that can be navigated in virtual reality.

"The digital twin provides transparency and simplifies communication among all parties involved in claim processing, including contractors and construction management," stated Markus Bockholt of StartRaiff. His colleague, Eva Meißner, added that the model allows for measurements of walls or querying of moisture levels, reducing delays typically associated with on-site visits.

The AssureXR project is currently in its testing phase and represents R+V's commitment to innovation in insurance services. The initiative is also being featured as part of the German Insurance Association (GDV)'s "Insurers for Tomorrow" campaign.
