S-Game Releases Action RPG Phantom Blade Zero

Chinese studio S-Game has officially released its latest title, Phantom Blade Zero, on PC and PlayStation 5. The action RPG follows a protagonist named Soul who is forced to navigate a complex conspiracy and clear his name within a 66-day timeframe dictated by a failing artificial heart.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game features a distinct art style the developers call “kungfupunk,” which blends traditional wuxia—a genre centered on martial arts and moral codes—with mechanical prosthetics and supernatural elements. Gameplay focuses on high-speed combat, offering players over 30 weapons and various combat builds.

To lend authenticity to the project, actor and martial artist Donnie Yen served as a creative consultant and performed motion capture for the character Mó Yuan. Unlike many titles in the action-RPG subgenre that rely on extreme difficulty, S-Game has implemented multiple difficulty settings to broaden the game’s appeal to a wider audience.

Pre-launch reviews have been generally strong, with praise directed toward the game's combat mechanics and atmospheric world-building. Industry observers are now assessing whether Phantom Blade Zero will serve as the next significant global hit to emerge from the Chinese game development market.
