S4C Uses AWS Elemental Media Services for Complex Live TV Workflow
Welsh public service broadcaster S4C has adopted AWS Elemental Media Services to deliver a complex live TV workflow for the new Freely streaming platform.

S4C, a public service broadcaster for Wales, has implemented Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elemental Media Services to create a complex live TV workflow for the new Freely streaming platform.
Freely, a new free-to-air streaming service in the UK, required broadcasters to meet specific technical standards, including DVB DASH for adaptive bitrate streaming and EBU-TT-D for subtitles. These standards are necessary for interoperability on the platform.
S4C's lean engineering team faced challenges in building and operating a delivery stack to meet these demanding requirements. By leveraging AWS Elemental Media Services, S4C successfully built a production-ready pipeline, enabling the channel to launch on Freely.
This adoption supports S4C's "digital first" strategy, aiming to reach audiences on connected TVs and other platforms, ensuring Welsh-language content is accessible through various viewing methods beyond traditional broadcasts.
