Saab and Canada Advance Towards GlobalEye Acquisition
Saab and Canada's Defence Investment Agency have signed a term sheet for potential acquisition of GlobalEye surveillance aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab has taken a significant step towards a potential sale of its GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) solution to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The company announced it has signed a non-binding term sheet with Canada's Defence Investment Agency (DIA), laying the groundwork for detailed negotiations.
This agreement follows Canada's May 27, 2026 announcement identifying Saab as the preferred supplier for the nation's future AEW&C capability. While the term sheet does not constitute a contract or commitment to procure aircraft, it signifies progress in the ongoing discussions.
The GlobalEye system is an airborne surveillance solution based on a modified business jet, equipped with advanced radar and command-and-control capabilities. It is designed to provide comprehensive situational awareness over large areas for both military and civilian applications.
Further negotiations will focus on specific system configurations, delivery timelines, and financial terms. A final contract would represent a significant international sale for Saab's surveillance technology.
