Defense company Saab has entered into a new agreement with GKN Aerospace, deepening their collaboration on engine and propulsion systems for the Gripen E/F fighter jet. This agreement establishes a framework for an expanded partnership, increasing GKN Aerospace's role and responsibility in engine technology.

The Swedish government has recently decided to actively strengthen the nation's capabilities and expertise regarding the aircraft's engine. To achieve this objective, Saab and GKN Aerospace have been tasked with jointly creating the necessary conditions.

"The cooperation agreement we have now signed lays the foundation for establishing GKN Aerospace as Saab's partner in engine-related matters for Gripen E/F," said Johan Segertoft, head of Saab's business unit Gripen. "For Saab, being able to contribute to strengthening Sweden's fighter aircraft capability and domestic industrial capacity is of utmost importance."

The collaboration will enable GKN Aerospace to progressively assume a greater role in engine-related areas, providing expertise, capacity, and technical support for the Gripen E/F program. The companies already collaborate on the engine for the Gripen C/D, but this new agreement specifically covers the development for the E/F variant.
