Saab and Swedish Armed Forces Launch Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle
Saab, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Swedish Armed Forces have developed and launched a demonstrator for a Large Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (LUUV).

Swedish defense company Saab, in collaboration with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Swedish Armed Forces, has successfully developed and launched a demonstrator for a Large Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (LUUV).
The demonstrator was developed, built, and launched less than a year after the contract was awarded. Following successful sea trials, the initial phase of the project is complete. The next phase is anticipated to focus on developing advanced capabilities, including software, sensors, and autonomous functions.
The project highlights how close collaboration between industry and government agencies can significantly reduce the time from identifying an operational need to testing a new capability. This development will also contribute to Saab's future product development.
"This project demonstrates how new technologies can be rapidly translated into practical operational value. The uncrewed underwater vehicle can contribute to increased endurance, enhanced situational awareness, and strengthened underwater capabilities," stated Mats Wicksell, head of Saab's business area Naval. He also emphasized the short development timeframe achieved through the collaboration.
