Saab enhances Lima Airport operations with Digital Apron Management Center

Saab has bolstered operational efficiency and capacity at Lima Airport (LAP) through the implementation of its Digital Apron Management Center, which became operational in December 2024. The system is designed to improve situational awareness and enhance the management of apron operations, supporting the airport in handling increased air traffic.

The deployed solution integrates Saab's Digital Tower, ADS-B surveillance, Aerobahn surface management system, and TactiCall voice communication system. These technologies assist Lima Airport Partners (LAP) in optimizing apron operations and managing growing air traffic more effectively. Through collaboration with global and local experts, LAP has gained comprehensive control over apron management, setting a new benchmark for air traffic management efficiency in Latin America.

Sergio Martins, Saab's Director for Air Traffic Management & Surveillance Radar in Latin America, stated that Lima Airport's Digital Apron Management Center offers a direction for airport operators in the region looking to enhance operational efficiency and capacity.

Turgay Kircar, Chief Operating Officer at Lima Airport Partners, emphasized the deployment as a significant milestone in enhancing the airport's operational efficiency. He noted it as the first 100% digital apron management system in Latin America, improving situational awareness and streamlining operations while demonstrating a firm commitment to safety and efficiency. This collaboration with DFS Aviation Services and other partners is establishing new standards in apron management.

DFS Aviation Services commenced its apron management operations at Lima Airport in 2023. Anja Schneidewind, Country Manager Peru at DFS Aviation Services, indicated that the new digital center will support the airport's sustainable growth and highlights their commitment to leading efficiency and innovation in apron management across Latin America.
