Saab explores integrating GLSDB munition with Hanwha Aerospace artillery

Swedish defense firm Saab has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace. The partnership aims to investigate the technical potential for integrating the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into Hanwha’s Chunmoo rocket artillery system.

The GLSDB is a precision-guided munition developed by Saab and Boeing, capable of striking targets at distances exceeding 150 kilometers. By adapting the air-launched Small Diameter Bomb for ground-based deployment, the weapon is designed to provide greater reach than traditional gun or rocket artillery.

Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, stated that the agreement provides a framework to explore how the long-range precision capabilities of the GLSDB can be applied to both current and future users of the Chunmoo platform.

The agreement marks an initial stage of collaboration. Analysts note that as global military requirements shift toward longer-range strike capabilities, partnerships between established artillery platform manufacturers and precision-guided munition developers have become increasingly strategic in the defense export market.
