Saab Extends Boeing 787 Dreamliner Manufacturing Agreement
Saab and Boeing have signed an extension agreement for the manufacturing of large cargo doors, bulk cargo doors, and access doors for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The agreement continues a partnership that began in 2004.
Swedish defense and security company Saab has finalized an extension to its manufacturing agreement with Boeing for components of the 787 Dreamliner. The updated contract covers the production of large cargo doors, bulk cargo doors, and access doors for the wide-body aircraft.
The agreement serves as an extension of a framework contract originally signed in 2004 for the 787 Dreamliner program. Since the program's inception, Saab has delivered over 1,100 shipsets of doors for the aircraft.
"With this contract extension, we continue to be a proud partner to Boeing on the successful 787 program," stated Lars Tossman, head of Saab's Aeronautics business area. He added that the deal strengthens the existing relationship between the companies and enhances cooperation on both commercial aerostructures and the T-7A trainer aircraft for defense applications.
Saab possesses extensive experience in supplying major aerostructures for both military and commercial aviation programs. The 787 doors, like many other major structures on the aircraft, are primarily constructed from composite materials. Integrated systems within the composite structures make the doors lightweight and straightforward for Boeing to install.
