Saab Introduces Barracuda Poncho Camouflage for Soldiers
Defense company Saab has launched its Barracuda Poncho, a new camouflage solution designed to protect individual soldiers from sensor detection in various environments.
Defense and security company Saab has introduced its latest camouflage solution, the Barracuda Poncho, aimed at enhancing the protection of individual soldiers in the field. This new product expands Saab's existing Barracuda range of advanced camouflage systems.
The Barracuda Poncho is designed to conceal the user from thermal and, in its arctic variant, UV sensors, while allowing for freedom of movement. Weighing just over one kilogram, the poncho is lightweight and easy to deploy, wear, and adjust quickly. It offers visual and thermal protection across diverse environments, including woodland, desert, and arctic conditions.
The reversible design allows for both day and night configurations, with the night side offering enhanced thermal protection. Saab states the poncho addresses the increasing threat of drone-based surveillance on the battlefield, where even brief exposure can compromise a mission. The company builds on the positive feedback from its Soldier System with this new wearable camouflage solution.
Henning Robach, head of Saab's Barracuda business unit, highlighted the poncho's focus on wearability while maintaining multispectral protection. Saab plans to exhibit the Barracuda Poncho at their stand, G18.
This development reflects Saab's ongoing efforts to provide advanced protection technologies for military personnel and equipment against modern surveillance capabilities.
