Saab opens test facility for Australia's Hobart-class destroyers
Saab Australia has inaugurated a new test facility, a critical site for the integration and testing of combat systems for the Hobart-class destroyers.

Swedish defence company Saab has opened a new key test facility in Australia. The site is dedicated to the integration and testing of combat systems for the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) Hobart-class destroyers.
Located at Saab’s Sovereign Combat Systems Collaboration Centre (SCSCC) in Adelaide, the Australian Interface Reference Site (AIRS) is designed to enable the integration and testing of systems to be installed on the upgraded destroyers. The Australian Interface (AI) is a derivative of the RAN’s Australian Combat Management System (AusCMS), designed and developed in Australia by Saab.
The AI integrates radars, electronic warfare systems, and underwater sensors and effectors with the Aegis Combat Management System. The establishment of the new reference site marks a significant step towards delivering enhanced naval combat capability, Saab Australia stated.
Saab Australia Managing Director Andy Keough CSC highlighted that the reference site enables system integration and testing ahead of installing this advanced combat system capability on the Hobart destroyers. Keough added that Saab, in partnership with the Commonwealth, has developed a formidable sovereign capability underpinned by a talented engineering workforce and world-leading facilities.
