Saab outlines Canadian partnership strategy for Gripen fighter bid
Saab has identified CAE, IMP, and Magellan Aerospace as primary industrial partners for its Gripen E proposal to the Canadian government.

Swedish aerospace manufacturer Saab is preparing to establish a domestic production and support network in Canada, announcing collaborations with CAE, IMP, and Magellan Aerospace. These partnerships are contingent upon the Canadian government selecting the Gripen E as its next multi-role fighter aircraft.
The proposed model involves shifting key production, final assembly, and long-term maintenance capabilities directly into Canada. By integrating these major aerospace firms into its supply chain, Saab aims to address federal requirements regarding industrial technological benefits and sovereign control over defense assets.
This move follows an industry-wide push to align with Canadian procurement mandates. The formalization of these partnerships serves as a strategic effort to bolster Saab’s competitiveness against other international manufacturers bidding for the government contract.
