Saab presents next-generation Combat Boat 90 at DSEI

Swedish defense manufacturer Saab has unveiled the latest iteration of its Combat Boat 90 (CB90 NG) at the DSEI exhibition in London. This marks the first public demonstration of the vessel outside of Sweden, highlighting the company’s efforts to modernize its naval platform offerings.

The CB90 NG maintains the fundamental design characteristics of the original model, which was built for rapid troop transport and deployment in challenging coastal environments. Key technological upgrades include a new combat management system and integrated sensors intended for surveillance and mission-specific operations. Saab has also enhanced the boat's ballistic protection, maneuverability, and stealth capabilities to better serve modern amphibious forces.

Anders Hellman, head of the Docksta business unit within Saab’s Kockums division, stated that the vessel is the product of 30 years of operational feedback. The objective was to evolve the platform into a multi-role vessel capable of integrating into a broader combat and sensor chain, rather than merely performing a standard hardware upgrade.

The deployment of the CB90 NG reflects a growing industry focus on maritime security and the ability to project force rapidly from the sea. The boat remains a critical asset for navies requiring flexible logistics and operational speed in littoral zones.
