Saab Receives French Order for NLAW Anti-Tank Weapon

Swedish defense company Saab announced on June 16, 2026, that it has received an order from the French Armament General Directorate (Direction générale de l’Armement) for its NLAW (Next Generation Light Anti-tank Weapon). The contract includes the NLAW weapon system as well as indoor and outdoor training simulators. Deliveries are expected to take place between 2026 and 2030.

The agreement also contains options for France to order additional NLAW weapons, indicating a potential for future expansion of the contract. Saab has previously supplied France with its AT4 and Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems, and this order further strengthens the company's relationship with the French armed forces.

Görgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area, stated that the NLAW will bring a new level of anti-tank capability to the French Army, changing battlefield dynamics. He highlighted the weapon's effectiveness in enabling a single soldier to stop even heavily armored threats.

The NLAW is described as an operationally proven anti-tank weapon used by several nations, including Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Finland. Its system allows a single soldier to destroy modern main battle tanks with a single shot, operating from cover.
