Saab releases Ocean Barrier underwater surveillance system
Saab has introduced Ocean Barrier, a modular surveillance solution designed to track underwater activity and secure critical maritime infrastructure.

Swedish defense firm Saab has launched Ocean Barrier, an integrated system designed to improve surveillance in the underwater domain. The solution targets the protection of coastal borders, ports, and offshore infrastructure, such as energy grids and communication cables, against evolving maritime threats.
The system functions by networking multiple sensors and data collection points into a unified operational hub. By processing this input, Ocean Barrier provides operators with a real-time assessment of underwater activity, moving beyond the limitations of isolated, single-source surveillance tools.
As national security concerns increasingly focus on the vulnerability of subsea assets, the need for persistent awareness has intensified. Saab’s approach seeks to address these gaps by enabling the coordinated detection and analysis of underwater movements across large maritime territories.
