Saab to Equip German Navy's New Frigates with Combat Systems
Saab has received an order worth approximately SEK 8.7 billion to deliver and integrate combat systems, composite structures, and sensors onto four of the German Navy's new MEKO A-200 DEU class frigates.

Swedish defense company Saab has secured a contract with German naval defense firm TKMS to equip four of the German Navy's new MEKO A-200 DEU class frigates. The order, valued at approximately SEK 8.7 billion, includes the delivery and integration of advanced combat systems, composite structures, and sensors.
The frigates will be built in Germany with TKMS serving as the prime contractor. Saab's deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2032. The contract also encompasses an option for the integration of additional frigates.
The scope of the order includes fitting the frigates with composite superstructures, the 9LV Combat System with its fire control and combat management capabilities, and various sensors. These will feature the long-range surveillance radar Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face, the lightweight multi-mission surveillance radar Sea Giraffe 1X, alongside passive sensors.
This contract is expected to significantly enhance the German Navy's capabilities in anti-air, anti-submarine, and anti-surface warfare. The announcement, made on July 16, 2026, underscores Saab's ongoing commitment and collaboration with Germany's defense sector.
