Saab to supply ground-based air defence system to Swedish Army
Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for sensors and command-and-control systems for a ground-based air defence solution. The order value is approximately SEK 1.2 billion.
Swedish defense company Saab has secured an order valued at approximately SEK 1.2 billion (roughly EUR 105 million) from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The contract involves sensors and command-and-control systems for a ground-based air defence (GBAD) solution intended for the Swedish Army brigades.
Deliveries of the systems are scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2030. These new systems build upon previous deliveries to the FMV and are designed to enhance Sweden's ground-based air defence capabilities. The contract will equip the end-user with an improved ability to detect and counter advanced aerial threats.
Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab's business area Surveillance, stated the company's pride in contributing to the strengthening of the Swedish Army brigades' ground-based air defence. He emphasized that the systems will enhance their capability to conduct air defence operations and represent significant recognition of Saab's Giraffe AMB radar and GBAD command-and-control system.
The Giraffe AMB is designed for short-to-medium range GBAD, providing crucial time to secure freedom of maneuver and support air superiority. The integration of a powerful surveillance radar with command-and-control functionality offers forces rapid situational awareness of the air environment, enabling timely and effective responses to evolving threats.
