Saab unveils new coastal defence missile system

Swedish defense company Saab has unveiled its new Coastal Defence Missile System (CDMS), designed to enhance nations' capabilities in protecting their coastlines from seaborne threats. The system leverages Saab's proven RBS15 anti-ship missiles.

The CDMS system provides a significant engagement range, surpassing 300 kilometers, presenting an alternative to the costly acquisition of new surface warfare vessels. It offers a land-based capability for neutralizing enemy ships from a safe distance. The system comprises mobile missile vehicles and a battery command post, ensuring agility and rapid deployment.

According to Saab, the system addresses a growing global demand for strengthened coastal defenses amid challenges faced by many armed forces, including limited budgets, material shortages, and logistical hurdles. CDMS offers a cost-effective and quickly implementable solution compared to expanding naval fleets.

The Swedish Armed Forces have already placed an order for the Coastal Defence Missile System, and Saab is actively marketing it to several other nations. The company emphasizes the system's role in controlling territorial waters, safeguarding critical infrastructure, and deterring hostile incursions.

Saab is recognized for its comprehensive defense technology portfolio, which includes fighter jets, radar systems, and submarines. The new coastal defense system expands the company's offerings in the maritime defense sector. Deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces are part of a broader capacity development initiative within the country.
