Saab unveils new Combat Boat 90 CX
Saab has introduced the Combat Boat 90 CX, a new vessel design featuring optionally crewed operation and expanded combat capabilities.

Defense contractor Saab has launched the Combat Boat 90 CX, a platform designed to shift the role of small combat vessels from simple troop transport to a more active combat function. The new model supports three primary mission configurations: intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defense (SHORAD).
The vessel is built upon the existing CB90 platform but features an increased payload capacity and updated onboard systems capable of operating in a wider range of sea states. A key technological addition is the integration of Saab’s 'Autonomous Ocean Core,' which allows for either crewed or uncrewed operation.
Saab stated that the design responds to the need for naval forces to distribute combat capability across a wider area. By enabling these boats to act as nodes for sensors and weapons, the company aims to provide more flexibility and resilience in maritime defense operations.
