Saab's 9LV Combat System Marks Over 55 Years of Development
Saab's 9LV combat management system has a history dating back to the late 1960s. The system is currently utilized by over 20 navies worldwide.

Swedish defense company Saab has been developing its 9LV combat management system for over 55 years. Originally conceived as an analog solution in the late 1960s, the system has evolved into a benchmark for digital battle technology.
In a recent development, the German Navy selected Saab's 9LV for upgrading the command-and-control systems on its Brandenburg-Class frigates in 2021. This agreement brought Germany into the fold of more than 20 navies globally that utilize the 9LV system, alongside current users such as Australia, Canada, Sweden, and Finland.
The popularity of the 9LV system stems from its intuitive design and advanced technical capabilities. It offers a user-friendly C4I capability that integrates easily with other solutions, making it suitable for a wide range of naval platforms, from patrol boats to submarines and larger vessels.
Despite its current standing as a digital combat technology standard, the first iteration of the 9LV system in 1969 relied on analog components, including resistors and transformers, for its target identification and firing functions.
