Safeway Marks Centennial in Northern California
Retail chain Safeway celebrates 100 years of operation in Northern California with a community event featuring the awarding of two vehicles to contest winners.
Safeway is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a public community event on November 5 at its Dublin, California location. The event commemorates a century of retail operations in the Northern California region, featuring performances from local school groups and food sampling sessions.
The proceedings will conclude with the presentation of two 2026 Toyota RAV4 vehicles to winners selected through an independent sweepstakes process that attracted over 55,000 entries. According to Regional President Kelly Mullin, the milestone is intended to recognize the company’s history and its connection to the communities it serves.
Established in 1926, Safeway now operates 283 stores across Northern California, Hawaii, and Northern Nevada, employing approximately 34,400 people. As part of its centennial efforts, the company has also pledged a $5,000 donation to a local nonprofit organization focused on addressing food insecurity in the Dublin area.
