Safran to supply navigation systems for Eve Air Mobility's eVTOL aircraft

Safran Electronics & Defense has been selected to provide its SkyNaute inertial navigation systems for Eve Air Mobility's electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Under the agreement, each Eve aircraft will be equipped with two SkyNaute systems.

The SkyNaute system is based on Safran's patented HRG Crystal technology, utilizing a hemispherical resonant gyroscope. It is designed to deliver accurate, reliable, and resilient navigation, particularly in challenging environments where Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals may be unavailable, degraded, or jammed. This capability is considered critical for urban air mobility operations.

Eve Air Mobility, a subsidiary of Embraer, is developing eVTOL aircraft aimed at providing cleaner and more sustainable urban transportation solutions. Safran stated that this contract allows it to apply its expertise in inertial navigation to the next generation of civil aviation.

Eve Air Mobility recently completed the hover and low-speed flight phase of its full-scale eVTOL prototype's flight test campaign at Embraer's facility in Gavião Peixoto, São Paulo. The prototype has accumulated nearly two and a half hours of flight time, marking a significant step in the development of electric urban aviation.
