Sage clarifies differences between Veri*Factu and electronic B2B invoicing

Software provider Sage has released guidance clarifying the distinctions between two separate invoicing obligations: the Veri*Factu system and electronic B2B invoicing. While both are part of the digital transformation of invoicing, they represent distinct processes requiring different software adaptations from businesses.

VeriFactu pertains to the recording and reporting of transactional data from invoicing systems to tax authorities. Electronic B2B invoicing, conversely, governs the exchange of digital invoices between companies. New legislation, including Orden HAC/1028/2026, outlines the progressive implementation of electronic B2B invoicing, while the VeriFactu rollout for SMEs and sole proprietors is anticipated to be postponed to October 2028.

Sage emphasizes that compliance with Veri*Factu requirements does not automatically signify a system's readiness for electronic B2B invoicing, and vice versa. Businesses must ensure their invoicing software is capable of handling both mandates, including the generation of auditable records and the electronic exchange of invoices.

The new regulations and deferred timelines offer businesses more time to assess their current software solutions. Sage advises companies to review their software provider's roadmap, planned updates, and integration capabilities before deciding on software upgrades or replacements.
