Sage, a global provider of business software, has published the terms and conditions for accessing its Sage Business Cloud Accounting Application Programming Interface (API). These terms, effective from June 1, 2016, detail the guidelines for software developers looking to integrate their applications with Sage's accounting platform.

The agreement grants developers a non-exclusive, non-assignable, and revocable right to use the API and its accompanying documentation. This usage is permitted solely for the purpose of developing and testing third-party applications intended to integrate with Sage Accounting. Developers are explicitly prohibited from copying, reselling, sub-licensing, or otherwise distributing the API to others. Additionally, the API cannot be used to create competing products or to adversely affect the functionality of Sage Accounting or other Sage group software.

Sage retains all intellectual property rights to the API and Sage Accounting, and reserves the right to update, modify, suspend, or discontinue the API at any time. The company disclaims liability for any losses or damages arising from the use of the API, except where prohibited by law, such as for fraud or personal injury caused by negligence. Any liability is capped at R100, unless specific legal exceptions apply.

Developers using the API are obligated to ensure their applications are thoroughly tested and do not negatively impact Sage's software. They must also refrain from using Sage's trademarks or branding without prior written consent. Furthermore, developers must indemnify Sage against any third-party claims related to the use or possession of their API application, covering any resulting losses, damages, or legal costs. Sage may also request materials related to the developer's API application for potential display on its marketing channels.
