Sage reports 2021 fiscal results amid strategic cloud transition
Sage's 2021 annual report highlights the software company's ongoing shift toward cloud-based subscription models and recurring revenue.
Sage Group's 2021 annual report highlights a period of structural transition as the company moves further away from legacy software sales toward a cloud-native subscription model. The firm reported a 19.3% increase in recurring revenue, with Sage Business Cloud penetration reaching 67% of the business, up from 60% in the previous year. The company is positioning itself as a central digital network for small and medium-sized businesses.
Despite growth in recurring segments, statutory revenue declined by 3.0%, while the operating margin stood at 5.4%. The company's financial performance reflects the costs associated with the long-term migration of its customer base to cloud-based platforms and the phasing out of traditional license models.
Sage Chair Andrew Duff stated that the group enters the next fiscal year with momentum, building on strategic investments across its cloud portfolio. The firm’s current priorities center on scaling the Sage Intacct platform and expanding its reach within the small business sector by integrating finance, HR, and payroll tools.
