SAIC-GM warns owners of fraudulent recall text messages
SAIC-GM has issued a warning regarding fraudulent text messages targeting Cadillac, Buick, and Chevrolet owners with fake vehicle recall notices.
SAIC-GM announced that unauthorized parties are impersonating the company to send deceptive text messages to owners of Cadillac, Buick, and Chevrolet vehicles. The messages falsely claim that the vehicles are subject to an airbag recall and threaten the cancellation of warranty services if owners do not follow instructions contained in an attached link.
The automaker clarified that it has not initiated such a recall, nor has it authorized any third party to contact customers via SMS regarding recall procedures. The provided links are malicious and designed to harvest personal information from vehicle owners.
SAIC-GM stated it has collected evidence of these fraudulent activities and intends to pursue legal action against the perpetrators. The company advised customers to ignore these messages and refrain from clicking suspicious links to protect their data.
This incident follows a series of similar fraud attempts targeting major automakers in China. Brands including BYD, BMW, Volkswagen, and Li Auto have recently issued warnings regarding identical scams, signaling a broader trend of cybercriminals exploiting recall-related fears to target automotive consumers.
