SAIC-GM-Wuling, a prominent Chinese automaker, has pledged a donation totaling 3 million yuan (approximately $420,000 USD) in a combination of funds and vehicles to assist communities in the Guangxi region affected by severe flooding. The region experienced continuous heavy rainfall, exacerbated by Typhoon Maysak, leading to widespread inundation and disaster.
The donation will be channeled through the China Red Cross Foundation's "Striver Special Fund." These resources are designated for supporting post-disaster reconstruction in affected areas, providing aid to vulnerable populations, and enhancing the capabilities of rescue teams. The company stated its commitment to actively participate in emergency response and recovery operations.
The floods have resulted in significant devastation across Guangxi. Official reports from Nanning on July 9 indicated that the disaster had claimed at least 39 lives, with 9 individuals still reported missing. The breach of the Liulan Reservoir dam in Nanning was cited as a major contributing factor to the severe damage.
