Salvation Army Mobilizes for Hurricane Isaias Response

The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams are mobilizing in anticipation of Hurricane Isaias, a Category 3 storm, as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast. Landfall is expected overnight Friday, October 9. Trained disaster personnel and mobile feeding units are on standby to deploy to affected areas and provide essential support, including assistance with flooding and widespread power outages.

Preparations include deploying mobile canteen units to Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Panama City, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama, with additional units ready for other impacted regions. The organization is coordinating with partners, including Send Relief, Midwest Food Bank, and Walmart, to gather supplies such as meals, water, cleanup kits, and hygiene kits.

The Salvation Army is working with federal, state, and local emergency management agencies to adapt its response. While the storm is forecasted for the Gulf Coast, its impacts, including heavy rainfall, flooding, strong winds, and potential tornadoes, could extend inland across the Southeast.

Financial contributions are the primary way to support the relief efforts, enabling the provision of immediate aid and longer-term recovery. The Salvation Army has a history of assisting millions by addressing poverty, substance abuse, and other hardships through social services.
