Samsung Considers Kesterbit Batteries for Galaxy S27 Series
Samsung is implementing kesterbit (Si-C) batteries in its latest foldable phones and is considering expanding the technology to the Galaxy S series, potentially the Galaxy S27 models. The company is also continuing development of a rollable screen phone.

Samsung has begun equipping its latest foldable phones with kesterbit (Si-C) batteries and is now considering expanding the technology to its Galaxy S series, including the upcoming Galaxy S27 models. This move follows the adoption of kesterbit batteries by many Chinese phone manufacturers. The newest models, Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8, are Samsung's first smartphones to feature these batteries, which offer higher energy density for increased capacity in thinner and lighter devices.
While the foldable models have seen improvements in battery capacity or a slimmer design compared to previous generations, Samsung's adoption of this technology has been slower than that of competitors. Moon Sung-hoon, vice president of hardware for Samsung's MX (Mobile eXperience) division, confirmed that the company is considering introducing kesterbit batteries to its non-folding Galaxy S flagship phones, such as the anticipated Galaxy S27 series. The decision will depend on whether the battery technology can enhance the user experience. There are reports suggesting the Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature a battery as large as 5500 mAh.
Furthermore, Moon Sung-hoon affirmed that the company is continuing its development efforts on a rollable screen phone. This technology has been a long-term research and development focus, with efforts underway to mature the technology for commercialization. Internal targets suggest the first rollable phone could launch in the first half of 2028, and discussions regarding display panel supply with Samsung Display have already commenced.
