Samsung Details Smart Glasses Features in Challenge to Meta

Seoul, South Korea – Samsung on Wednesday detailed the features of its upcoming smart glasses, entering a device category that Meta has led for several years.

The tech giant, which previously unveiled the "intelligent eyewear" at the Google I/O conference in May, announced that the glasses include a built-in camera. This camera can capture video from the user's perspective. The glasses can also read content from whiteboards or presentations and organize the information into notes. Integrated speakers allow users to listen to summaries of smartphone messages.

The glasses are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip and require a smartphone connection to operate. Samsung also stated it is testing gesture control via its smartwatches, potentially enabling control of the glasses' functions through hand movements, possibly even with the Galaxy Ring device. The product line will launch this fall with multiple designs and colors.

Samsung's entry marks a significant challenge to Meta, which has dominated the smart glasses market since 2021 with its Ray-Ban Meta line. Meta held 69.2% of the smart glasses market in the first quarter of 2026, according to IDC. Samsung has not yet disclosed pricing for its glasses but has indicated they will be positioned as a "premium product," not in the entry-level price range.

Analysts note that while Samsung presents a serious challenge to Meta, success is not guaranteed. Meta boasts strong brand awareness, and Samsung must demonstrate its ability to convince consumers of the device's everyday utility beyond smartphone integration.
