Samsung Electronics is speeding up the construction of its PH1 DRAM production line at the Pyeongtaek P5 factory, according to local media reports. The company initiated cleanroom construction this quarter, earlier than previously anticipated.
Industry projections suggested semiconductor manufacturing equipment would be installed around July-August 2027. However, recent sources indicate Samsung is pushing for equipment installation as early as May-June 2027, even expressing a desire to receive equipment in Q1 2027 for temporary storage. This highlights Samsung's strong intention to invest proactively in the P5 project.
Concurrently, Samsung is reportedly discussing with partners the possibility of converting the P5 PH2 phase into a production line for advanced NAND flash memory. Due to extended lead times for equipment, Samsung has requested partners to prepare necessary components in advance.
The accelerated timelines and potential shift in production focus suggest Samsung's strategic response to market demands and supply chain considerations within the competitive semiconductor industry.
