Samsung Electronics and Arm to Jointly Develop Next-Generation AI Chips
Samsung Electronics and Arm have launched a collaborative effort to develop next-generation AI chips. These chips are designed for on-device processing, eliminating the need for cloud connectivity.
Samsung Electronics and Arm have officially initiated a joint development project for next-generation AI chips. These chips are engineered for local processing on end-user devices, such as smartphones, removing the reliance on cloud-based computation.
Arm has allocated engineering resources and funding for the project, which aims to create customized chips for consumers. Samsung's System LSI division will lead the chip design, utilizing Arm's AI architecture. Manufacturing will be carried out using Samsung's advanced 2-nanometer process technology.
Arm will provide core design technologies, including its proprietary AI accelerator architecture and RTL design capabilities. The company will also facilitate communication of end-user requirements to Samsung and oversee the development timeline.
Under the agreement, Samsung Electronics will independently handle the chip's design, manufacturing, and direct sales to end customers. Arm's role is that of a technology partner, rather than a direct chip supplier.
