Samsung Electronics Consolidates DRAM Manufacturing for Efficiency

Samsung Electronics is integrating its back-end manufacturing facilities for general DRAM memory in Hwaseong, aiming to reduce production cycle times and boost actual output, according to local media reports.

Previously, the back-end processes for DRAM manufactured at the Hwaseong front-end facility were spread across the Hwaseong H2 plant and the nearby Cheonan campus. This decentralization reportedly led to lower production efficiency compared to its Pyeongtaek campus, where both front-end and back-end facilities coexist.

The company plans to establish a centralized back-end production facility at the Hwaseong H1 plant, which previously housed older production lines that have since been dismantled. This approach will reuse existing cleanroom space, thereby shortening the construction period for the new setup.

The consolidation is expected to not only expedite the manufacturing process but also free up space for potential production line expansions, further enhancing Samsung's overall DRAM memory capacity.
