Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics' Device Experience division, has indicated that the technology and market for foldable phones have reached a mature stage. He views the increasing number of competitors entering the market as a sign that foldable devices are becoming mainstream.

According to Roh, Samsung's seven years of experience in foldable phones provide a long-term advantage in technology and consumer insight that rivals will find difficult to match quickly. He stressed that Samsung aims to continue setting new standards and leading the global market in this segment.

With Apple expected to launch its first foldable phone later this year, Roh believes the competitive focus for foldables is shifting from purely novel form factors to deeper integration into daily life and fulfilling more diverse consumer needs.

Looking ahead, Roh anticipates that artificial intelligence (AI) will become the next major competitive battleground for foldable phones. Samsung plans to extend its Galaxy AI features to 800 million users within the year. He also emphasized the importance of privacy and transparency in AI usage, keeping sensitive personal data on-device and allowing users visibility into AI operations.
