Samsung Electronics to acquire Samsung Display's 10.16% stake in TCL CSOT

Samsung Electronics plans to purchase the entire 10.16% equity stake held by its subsidiary, Samsung Display, in TCL CSOT for approximately $960 million.

30 October 2026

Samsung Electronics has announced a plan to acquire the full 10.16% stake in TCL CSOT currently held by its subsidiary, Samsung Display. The transaction, valued at approximately $960 million, is scheduled for completion by December 2026.

Samsung Display has been a long-term strategic investor in TCL CSOT, the display manufacturing arm of TCL Technology, since 2011. The stake was significantly bolstered in 2020 when Samsung Display offloaded its LCD production facilities in Suzhou to TCL CSOT in exchange for equity. That deal established Samsung Display as one of the largest foreign shareholders in the company.

This internal transfer centralizes the TCL CSOT equity directly under Samsung Electronics. While the move represents a shift in corporate structure, TCL CSOT remains a critical partner in the display supply chain. The transaction follows reports earlier this year that Samsung Display opted not to exercise a put option that would have required TCL CSOT to buy back these shares at a predetermined valuation.
