Samsung forecasts full capacity utilization for 8nm and smaller nodes by 2027
Samsung expects demand for its 8nm and sub-8nm semiconductor manufacturing processes to exceed capacity by 2027, driven largely by high-performance computing (HPC) and AI requirements.
Samsung anticipates that its utilization rate for 8nm and more advanced manufacturing nodes will surpass 100% by 2027. This projection follows a significant increase in demand for advanced semiconductors, particularly from large-scale cloud providers and artificial intelligence hardware developers.
According to recent industry data, Samsung’s foundry business is experiencing a recovery trajectory as AI-driven demand persists. The company reported a doubling of 2nm-process project acquisitions in the current year, indicating a strengthening position in the competitive high-performance computing market.
To address the widening gap between advanced manufacturing capacity and market demand, Samsung is evaluating expansion plans for its semiconductor facilities in both South Korea and the United States. Future investments are expected to focus on scaling 8nm, 4nm, and 2nm production capabilities, with a particular focus on the Taylor, Texas site to bolster global supply chain resilience.
