Samsung Galaxy S27 to Feature New OLED Display Materials
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra models will utilize a new M16 lighting material, while standard and Plus versions will adopt M14. This update signifies a display material upgrade across the entire S-series for the first time in three years.
Samsung Electronics is set to upgrade the lighting materials for the OLED displays in its forthcoming Galaxy S27 smartphone series. The S27 Pro and S27 Ultra models are expected to incorporate a new material codenamed "M16." Concurrently, the standard and Plus models of the S27 series will be equipped with "M14," a material previously introduced in Samsung's higher-end smartphones.
The Galaxy S27 series is anticipated to launch in the first quarter of next year. Reports suggest the M16 material has already been implemented in Apple's iPhone 18 Pro series and Google's Pixel 11 series. Additionally, Vivo plans to feature Samsung Display's M16 OLED panels in its upcoming iQOO 16 device.
This move marks the first time in three years that Samsung is unifying the display materials across its entire Galaxy S lineup. Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of all OLED panels for the S27 series. Industry analysis indicates that this standardization is likely to extend to Samsung's foldable phones, with the expected Galaxy Z9 series also potentially receiving similar display material upgrades.
The display sizes for the Galaxy S27 series are projected to range from 6.27 inches for the standard model up to 6.89 inches for the Ultra variant. This comprehensive display update across the S-series aims to improve visual performance and manufacturing consistency.
