Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 to feature subscription-based diving app

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 smartwatch is set to feature advanced diving capabilities, with reports indicating that full functionality will be locked behind a subscription model. Developed in partnership with diving equipment brand Mares, the dedicated dive app is expected to offer multiple tiers of access.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 itself meets the EN13319 standard for dive equipment, allowing for use up to 40 meters underwater. It is designed to display key real-time data, including depth, water temperature, and dive duration, benefiting from a high-brightness screen for underwater visibility.

Initial information suggests a free "Timer Mode" will provide basic functions like depth and ascent rate alerts. A "Snorkel Mode" for $2.99 per month is expected to add GPS tracking, maps, a compass, and heart rate monitoring. The most comprehensive "Scuba Mode" is anticipated to cost $7.99 per month or $59.99 annually.

This premium "Scuba Mode" is slated to include full dive computer features, such as managing compressed air or mixed gas tanks, calculating decompression stops, and various safety alerts. Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the application's release date or finalized pricing.
