Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Introduces New Split-Screen Multitasking Features

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8 foldable phone will feature enhanced multitasking capabilities with the introduction of its One UI 9 software. The update brings the "Open Canvas" layout, designed to improve the user experience when running multiple applications simultaneously on the device's large display.

The new Open Canvas feature allows users to run up to three apps on the screen at once. This includes novel split-screen configurations such as a 90:10 layout, where one app occupies 90% of the screen and two other apps are stacked vertically in the remaining 10%. Other options include a three-column vertical split and a traditional layout with one large app alongside two smaller, stacked apps.

Testing conducted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 indicates that while three apps can be positioned side-by-side in a vertical split, a horizontal arrangement for three apps is not supported in this configuration. The aim of these software enhancements is to maximize productivity and utility for users who leverage the foldable form factor for demanding tasks.

These updates to Samsung's One UI are part of a continuous effort to refine the usability of foldable devices. The ability to manage and view multiple applications efficiently is a key selling point for the premium foldable market, and these new features aim to offer a more fluid and versatile user experience.
