Samsung Invests $1 Billion in AI Infrastructure Firm Helix Digital

Samsung Electronics and its affiliates are set to invest a total of $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an artificial intelligence infrastructure firm co-founded by KKR and backed by Nvidia.

Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million to the investment, with the remaining $500 million coming from other Samsung group companies including Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. This move signals a significant push to address the growing demand for AI computing power and the necessary infrastructure.

Helius Digital Infrastructure focuses on building the core components required for AI, such as hyperscale data centers, power generation and distribution networks, and fiber-optic communication lines. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The investment will allow Samsung to leverage the capabilities of its various affiliates, spanning semiconductors, cooling systems, data center construction, and battery technology. Samsung stated the investment aims to accelerate the global deployment of AI data centers and enhance collaboration among the participating entities. According to KKR, Helix has already secured over $10 billion in committed funds from other investors.
