Samsung Launches 990 SSD in China

Samsung has released its new PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, the 990 model. The 1TB version is priced at 1499 yuan and the 2TB version at 2399 yuan.

SEOUL – Samsung has introduced its latest PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive, the 990 model, to the Chinese market. The 1 terabyte version is available for 1499 yuan (approximately $207 USD), while the 2 terabyte version is priced at 2399 yuan (approximately $331 USD).

The new 990 SSD features an M.2 2280 form factor and utilizes a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, supporting the NVMe 2.0 specification. The drive is built with Samsung's V-NAND QLC flash memory and an in-house DRAM-less controller, employing the HMB (Host Memory Buffer) caching solution for enhanced performance. It comes with a warranty of 3 years or 400TBW (Terabytes Written).

Samsung claims that the 990 series SSDs offer up to 38 percent improved energy efficiency compared to the previous 990 PRO model. In terms of performance, the 2TB version delivers sequential read speeds of up to 7250 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6450 MB/s. Random read and write speeds reach up to 850K IOPS and 1200K IOPS, respectively.
