Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning a 20% increase in the average selling price of its DRAM (Dynamic Random-Access Memory) chips for the third quarter of the year.

Sources within the consumer electronics industry have confirmed that Samsung has been in discussions with manufacturers since June and has provided verbal notification of the intended price adjustment. An executive from a terminal device manufacturer stated the information is accurate.

Industry insiders have corroborated the report, indicating that Samsung has already communicated the price increase proposal verbally to some of its clients. This move comes amid tight supply conditions for DRAM.

Earlier reports from market research firm TrendForce had projected a more moderate contract price increase of 13-18% for DRAM in the third quarter. TrendForce had also noted that while AI demand is expected to support prices, increased LPDRAM costs might pressure smartphone brands to raise end-product prices, potentially impacting sales. The ongoing tight supply for DRAM is expected to continue underpinning contract price increases.
