Samsung Promises Five Major System Updates for New Smartwatches

Samsung has officially launched its new Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 smartwatches, with the company committing to five major operating system updates and five years of security patches for the devices.

These new smartwatches will ship with One UI 9 Watch, based on Wear OS 7. With the commitment of five major updates, the devices are expected to be eligible for upgrades up to Wear OS 12, extending their software support lifecycle to approximately 2031.

This updated support policy represents an increase from Samsung's previous standard for smartwatches, which typically offered four major OS updates and five years of security patches. The extended support aims to prolong the usability and security of the devices for consumers.

Samsung has been enhancing software support across its mobile product range. Its flagship Galaxy phones and tablets now receive up to seven years of Android system and security updates. This broader trend towards longer software lifecycles benefits consumers by ensuring devices remain updated with new features and security protections for an extended period.
