Samsung Reportedly Evaluates Dual Model Strategy for Galaxy Z Fold9

Reports suggest Samsung is considering expanding its 2027 foldable smartphone lineup with a second variant, potentially launching Pro or FE editions alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold9.

28 October 2026

Samsung is reportedly exploring a diversification strategy for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold9 series, aiming to strengthen its market position against projected competition from Apple. Industry reports indicate the company is evaluating the development of a second foldable device to supplement the standard model in 2027.

Two distinct paths are currently under consideration: a Pro version and a Fan Edition (FE) model. The proposed Pro configuration would prioritize hardware enhancements, including a larger display, increased battery capacity, improved thermal management, and upgraded camera capabilities such as advanced zoom functionality.

Conversely, the FE model aims to capture a broader market share through a lower price point. To achieve this, the company may adjust specifications, such as downgrading the ultra-wide camera sensor to 12 megapixels and replacing top-tier processors with the Exynos 2,600 chipset. The standard Galaxy Z Fold series currently retails at approximately $1,699.

While these plans remain in the assessment phase, they highlight a shift in Samsung’s foldable strategy as it looks to address both premium power users and price-sensitive consumers to maintain its lead in the expanding foldable market.
