Samsung reveals new smart glasses designs and specs, including 9-hour battery

Samsung has provided its first in-person look at its upcoming smart glasses, revealing two new frame designs and initial specifications, including a notable nine-hour battery life. The smart eyewear, a collaboration with Google and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, is scheduled for release this fall.

The company had previously teased the new glasses alongside Google, with early designs shown at the I/O conference in May. The latest reveals include a pair of distinctly angular black frames from Gentle Monster and a more rounded, reddish-brown option from Warby Parker. As with other smart glasses on the market, including those from Meta, these devices feature cameras, which raise similar privacy concerns.

Samsung has detailed that the glasses incorporate an integrated display projecting virtual information into the user's field of view. Control is managed via touchpads located on the frames. The glasses are powered by AI for functions such as object recognition and real-time translation, though specific performance details and the AI models used have not yet been fully disclosed.

The introduction of these smart glasses aligns with a broader industry push to merge digital information more seamlessly with the physical world. This competitive space is heating up, with the Samsung-Google partnership aiming to set new benchmarks for consumer augmented reality devices. The nine-hour battery life represents a significant improvement and could be a key factor in the product's market adoption.
